About OakWeekly

An independent digest covering local and provincial news from Canadian communities that receive limited national media coverage.

What this publication covers

OakWeekly publishes weekly summaries of regional news from Ontario, Atlantic Canada, and British Columbia. Coverage focuses on housing policy, public transit, municipal governance, land use, and community infrastructure — topics that affect daily life but are often underrepresented in national media.

Stories are drawn from publicly available sources: government documents, municipal council minutes, planning commission reports, and established regional news outlets. The digest does not conduct original investigative reporting. Its purpose is to summarise and contextualise information that is already public but may not be easily accessible to general readers.

Coverage areas

  • Ontario: Mid-sized cities and towns outside the Greater Toronto Area, including Northern Ontario, Simcoe County, and eastern Ontario communities.
  • Atlantic Canada: Halifax Regional Municipality, Greater Moncton, Saint John, and smaller communities across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • British Columbia: Interior B.C. cities, northern B.C. communities, and mid-sized municipalities across the province outside Metro Vancouver.

Editorial approach

OakWeekly does not publish opinion, advocacy, or commentary. Articles are written in a neutral, descriptive register. Where data is cited, sources are identified and linked. Where exact figures are unavailable or unverified, the text uses qualifying language rather than approximate numbers.

No statistics are invented for the purpose of these summaries. No organisations are cited that do not exist. External links go to primary sources or established public institutions.
